On Tuesday, a judge in Florida ordered rapper Kodak Black to undergo 30 days of drug rehab, after he reportedly tested positive for fentanyl while awaiting trial for drug trafficking charges.

The Miami Herald reported that Broward County Judge Barbara Duffy granted the performer permission to remain out of custody until March 7, so that he could perform at the Rolling Loud concert near Los Angeles over the weekend.

Earlier, Duffy had issued a warrant for Kodak Black’s arrest after he missed a court-ordered drug test on February 3 and tested positive on February 8. He has pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial from a July arrest on a charge of trafficking.

According to the Associated Press, the judge warned the rapper to “You better get it together,” during his court appearance this week. An arrest warrant had been issued on February 26th after Kodak Black failed to take a court-ordered drug test at the beginning of the previous month, only to test positive a few days later.

During the hearing, the technician responsible for taking Black’s sample acknowledged that there was no chance of mixing up the sample or paperwork. Black’s lawyer, Bradford Cohen, suggested that the technician may have been too starstruck to remain professional.

The defense declined to have Black tested via a hair sample, which could surface instances of drug use as far back as 90 days. Urine and blood tests, in comparison, detect much more recent drug use.

Black was first arrested in relation to his drug trafficking charges in July 2022 following a traffic stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A search of his vehicle revealed he was in possession of 31 oxycodone pills and almost $75,000 in cash.

He was released on a $75,000 bond after being charged with a felony one charge of trafficking oxycodone, and a lesser charge of possession of a controlled substance. He has pled not guilty to the trafficking charge.

In January 2021, President Donald Trump commuted the rapper’s 46-month prison sentence for falsifying information on federal forms to buy firearms on his last full day in office. He previously served seven months in a Florida prison on charges of marijuana possession, child neglect, grand theft of a firearm, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Black has also been previously charged with weapons possession, armed robbery, sexual assault, probation violations, and fleeing from officers.
