Rapper YNW Melly Double Murder Trial Declared A Mistrial

Rapper YNW Melly, whose real name is Jamell Demons, recently faced a double murder trial that ended in a mistrial.

The trial took place in Broward County, South Florida, where the jury could not come to a unanimous decision after 19 days of hearing arguments.

The charges against Demons stemmed from the October 26, 2018 killings of Anthony Williams, 21, and Christopher Thomas, 19, in Miramar, Florida. Closing arguments were delivered on Thursday, and the jury deliberated for two days, during which they requested to review some evidence. Despite their efforts, they were unable to reach a decision.

Jamell Demons, now 24 years old, pleaded not guilty to the charges and faced the possibility of a death sentence if convicted.

The case revolved around an incident that occurred after a recording session. Demons, Williams, and Thomas were in a Jeep driven by Cortland Henry, also known as YNW Bortlen, when prosecutors claimed Demons shot and killed Williams and Thomas. Henry was charged as an accomplice but will have a separate trial.

Authorities alleged that Demons and Henry staged the crime scene to look like a drive-by shooting, suggesting gang involvement.

However, the defense argued that Demons was close friends with the victims, refuting the prosecution’s claims.
