The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has revealed that all Ghanaians who still want to keep using their Sim Cards are to re-register them before June or July this year using Ghana Card or risk losing them.
Bawumia who is currently in charge of the country while President Akufo-Addo is out for 9-days made this known today, Monday, May 11, 2021, while speaking at the 5th Ghana CEO Summit in Accra.
According to him, this is a new idea is part of plans to get rid of the country’s cyberspace of fraud (preventing MOMO fraud activities).
Below read his statement.
“I expect that the Minister for Communications and Digitalization [Ursula Owusu Ekuful] will soon announce the date for registration of the SIM card. Maybe by the end of June or beginning of July this year, everybody will have to register their SIM with a National ID number.
“We all have to do that otherwise we’ll lose that SIM card and that will really give us a real identity for all MoMo transactions. For example, it takes away fraud…that is taking place like SIM box and through MoMo”, he added.
This new update from the Vice-President is really going to be a bit of a problem as netizens have already taken to social media to start bashing him for bringing this new law.
According to most youths, Bawumia is asking we Ghanaians to re-register our sims with the new National Identification Card (Ghana Card) by the end of June or July, but here lies the case, not all Ghanaians were giving the chance to register, and also some did register but till now, they have still not gotten a hold of their cards.
