Chelsea’s captain, Reece James, will not be able to play in the upcoming Premier League match on Saturday, October 7. He is facing a suspension from the FA due to his behavior towards a match official following Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa last month.
Reece’s suspension takes effect immediately, and this was announced in an official press statement released by the FA on Wednesday.
According to the statement, in addition to the suspension, Reece is also facing a fine of £90,000 for breaking the FA Rule E3 during Chelsea’s Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
The defender has admitted that he used improper, insulting, and abusive language and behavior towards a match official in the tunnel after the final whistle.
An FA statement read: “Reece James has been given a one-game suspension and £90,000 fine for breaching FA Rule E3 at Chelsea’s Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday 24 September.
“The defender admitted he used improper, insulting and abusive words and behaviour towards a match official in the tunnel after the final whistle.
“An independent Regulatory Commission imposed these sanctions following a hearing, and its written reasons for them will be published at the earliest opportunity.”
Reece James' one-match suspension is effective immediately – it will be served when #Chelsea face Burnley.

Chelsea will be hosted by Burnley in their upcoming Premier League matches on Saturday, October 7th, and with this, James will not be able to play.
James, who was appointed club captain during the summer, has already missed eight matches due to a hamstring injury he suffered during training back in August.
