Hey, so Reno Omokri is basically telling President Bola Tinubu, “Let’s put a stop to all this sports betting craziness in Nigeria, man!”

Reno Omokri is a Nigerian author and social media influencer. Omokri was the host of Transformation with Reno Omokri, a Christian teaching TV show broadcast on San Francisco’s KTLN-TV and Detroit’s Impact Network.

In a compelling exposition on platform X, Omokri articulates that the imposition of such a ban holds the keys to helping regular Nigerians and boost the country’s currency, Naira. His idea is to give the Nigerian Communications Commission the power to block betting apps and take away licenses from those in-person sports betting joints.

According to him, Tinubu can make a quick move to improve things. He says, “Just sign an Executive Order, telling the Nigerian Communications Commission to kick sports betting apps out of the App Store for any GSM Internet Service Provider in Nigeria. Also, cancel the licenses of any brick-and-mortar sports betting spots in Nigeria. It just makes more sense than Buhari’s strict #TwitterBan, you know?”

Omokri points out the serious issue of gambling in Nigeria, claiming a whopping $1 billion is blown on it every day. He challenges us to fact-check that. On average, he says each Nigerian throws away $15 daily on sports betting and other forms of gambling, with most of that money going out of our country to places like Russia, South Africa, and Europe. And guess what? That’s not good for the Naira’s health.

He goes on to say that a chunk of the small-time crimes in Nigeria happens because young folks are desperate for cash to fuel their gambling habits. He’s like, “Come on, Tinubu, as a top-notch accountant, you gotta do something about this gambling mess. It’s a serious threat to our national security, man!”
