Forbes, which is an American business magazine owned by Integrated Whale Media Investments and the Forbes family has released its complete list of Africa’s Richest Men in 2022.

Forbes released its list of Richest People In Africa (Africa’s Billionaires) on Monday, January 24, 2022.

In the 2022 version of Africa’s Richest people (billionaires), Forbes came out with the names of 18 business tycoons as the continent’s richest, a list compiled by 6 of the Business Magazine’s writers, including David Dawkins, Jemima McEvoy, Rachel Sandler, Chase Peterson-Withorn and Kerry A. Dolan.

The 18 business tycoons who made it to the list are from seven African countries, dominated by South Africa and Egypt with five each, followed by Nigeria with three billionaires. In Forbes’ post, they used stock prices and currency exchange rate from January 19, 2022, to measure the net worths.

Who Is Africa’s Richest Billionaire?

For the 11th time in a row, Nigeria’s business magnate, Aliko Dangote GCON, who is the chairman and CEO of Dangote Group, an industrial conglomerate topped the list as he is now worth $13.9 billion, Dangote as of September 2021 had a net worth of $12.7 billion, which means there have been $1.2 billion increments since September 2021, to January 19th, 2022.

Johann Peter Rupert who is a South African-born entrepreneur, who is the eldest son of business tycoon Anton Rupert and his wife Huberte, came as the second person on the list of Africa’s richest billionaires has a net worth of $11 billion.

Nicholas F. Oppenheimer, also a South African billionaire businessman who was the former chairman of De Beers diamond mining company and of its subsidiary, the Diamond Trading Company, and former deputy chairman of Anglo American, also followed up as he makes it on the list as the third richest man in Africa with an estimated net worth of $8.7 billion.

“As a group, the continent’s 18 billionaires are worth an estimated $84.9 billion–15% more than twelve months ago and the largest combined tally since 2014 when there were 28 African billionaires, the average net worth is higher this year due to the current smaller number of list members” according to Forbes.
