AS Roma has brought back Claudio Ranieri as their head coach for a third stint. The announcement was made on Thursday, with the club confirming that Ranieri, 73, will lead the team for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
At the end of the season, he will transition into a senior executive role, advising the club’s ownership on sporting matters and assisting in the search for a new head coach.
This marks Ranieri’s third time taking charge of Roma, a club with which he has a rich history. His first spell as Roma’s manager was from 2009 to 2011, and he returned for a brief period in 2019.
While Roma has had its ups and downs under various managers, the club’s current situation is far from ideal.
With only three wins so far in the 2024/25 Serie A season, Roma has struggled to find form and is in desperate need of a turnaround.

The decision comes after Roma parted ways with Ivan Juric, who was dismissed after just 12 matches in charge.
Juric had joined Roma in September, following the departure of Daniele De Rossi, who had briefly replaced José Mourinho earlier in the year.
Ranieri is widely respected for his calm and experienced leadership, notably leading Leicester City to a historic Premier League title in 2015/16.
His tactical expertise will be crucial as he looks to steady Roma’s ship and restore the club to its competitive best.
Roma has expressed confidence in Ranieri’s ability to guide them through this difficult period, with hopes that his leadership will bring stability.
The club’s search for a long-term manager will continue in the coming months, but for now, Ranieri’s experience and knowledge of the club will be key to their immediate success.
