Roman Abramovich: New Evidence Highlights Corrupt

The Russian Billionaire, Roman Abramovich has been dubbed to involve in corrupt practices accident to an investigation by BBC, fully known as British Broadcasting Corporation. The findings revealed that the notorious Chelsea owner bought a Russian oil company in 1995 in what was known as a “rigged auction.

He was found to had bought the company for $250m before selling back to the Russian government for $13bn in 2005. This development is aimed to establish a fact that the Chelsea owner had amazed his wealth through some sort of criminality and dubiousness.

Reacting to the statement, Abramovich’s lawyer that the accusation lacked proof to ascertain that his client have been involved in dubious deals.

In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the west, especially the United States have declared an economic war on Russia. Chelsea is a football club based in London and owned by Abramovich’s which happened to not just be a Russian but a very close friend of Vladimir Putin.

As things stand, the Russian have his asset frozen and is not allowed to make profit from the club. Recently, he was disqualified from bring the Club’s director.

In recent weeks, the rich businessman has accepted that he made some corrupt deals to hijack the Sibneft deal. BBC Panorama has obtained a top secret document from Russia which stated that the Russian government were robbed of $2.7bn in the Sibneft deal – a claim supported by a 1997 Russian parliamentary investigation.

It reads: “The Dept. of Economic Crimes investigators came to the conclusion that if Abramovich could be brought to trial he would have faced accusations of fraud… by an organised criminal group.”

Mr Skuratov told the programme: “Basically, it was a fraudulent scheme, where those who took part in the privatisation formed one criminal group that allowed Abramovich and Berezovsky to trick the government and not pay the money that this company was really worth.”

The document further says: “Skuratov was preparing a criminal case for the confiscation of Sibneft on the basis of the investigation of its privatisation. The investigation was stopped by President Yeltsin … Skuratov was dismissed from his office.”

Moreover, Mr Skuratov was axed following a sex tap leak in 1999. He argued that it was planed against him.

“This whole thing was obviously political, because in my investigations I came very close to the family of Boris Yeltsin, including via this investigation of the Sibneft privatisation,” he said.
