New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has firmly told the club’s supporters that he should not be compared to legendary former manager Jose Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach, who took over from Erik ten Hag, made his feelings clear in an interview with the club’s website on Friday.
Amorim acknowledged receiving a message of support from Mourinho, who led United from 2016 to 2018.
Despite the connection, Amorim stressed that he wants to build his own legacy at the club and not be measured against his predecessor.
“He sent me a message, saying it’s a big club with lovely people, and he’s right—it still is,” Amorim said. “But we are building a new club. I am a different guy, and I want to teach something different here.
We are aiming to win, that’s all.”

The 39-year-old coach also made it clear that while Mourinho’s achievements, including winning European titles, were impressive, he is focused on what he can bring to the club at this point in time.
“Football is different nowadays,” he explained. “I think I am the right person for this moment. I’m young, and I try to use that to help my players.”
Amorim, who is known for his tactical innovations, added that he believes his approach is well-suited to modern football.
He is focused on building a team that can compete for titles and succeed in a rapidly changing football landscape.
