Russell Simmons Sued for Defamation by Drew Dixon After He Suggested Accusers ‘Thirst for Fame’

Russell Simmons, co-founder of Def Jam Records, faces another legal challenge just days after being accused of rape by a former Def Jam executive.

Drew Dixon, a former employee, filed a lawsuit against Simmons for defamation, alleging that he labeled her a “liar” after she spoke out about her experiences. The lawsuit, reported by Rolling Stone and Variety, seeks compensatory and punitive damages.

Dixon, who served as a Def Jam A&R executive from 1993 to 1995, filed the suit in New York. The defamation claim stems from Simmons’ comments in a December interview, where he questioned the definitions of harassment and sexual assault, implying that his accusers were seeking attention and fame.

Dixon asserts that Simmons’ remarks were part of a deliberate effort to discredit her and damage her reputation, exacerbating the challenges she faces professionally.

This lawsuit adds to a series of allegations against Simmons, with Dixon joining over 20 women who have accused him of sexual misconduct.

In 2017, Dixon first publicly shared her experiences, detailing instances where she rebuffed Simmons’ advances and accusing him of sexual assault in 1995. Simmons has consistently denied these claims.

The legal battle against Simmons continues to unfold, with another accuser, identified as Jane Doe, recently filing a rape lawsuit against him. Doe alleges that Simmons assaulted her in his Manhattan apartment during the late 1990s.

Despite Simmons’ denials, the mounting allegations underscore the seriousness of the accusations and their impact on his reputation and career.

Simmons has expressed regret for his past behavior, acknowledging that he was “thoughtless and insensitive.” However, he maintains that he was never violent and asserts that he passed multiple lie detector tests regarding the allegations of violent conduct.

As the legal proceedings progress, Simmons’ reputation remains under scrutiny, and the outcome of these cases will have far-reaching implications.
