In the midst of an escalation of hostilities between Moscow and Kiev, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Wednesday that Russia has used approximately 400 Iranian drones against Ukraine’s civilian population, according to Ukrainian media website The Kyiv Independent.

According to the Ukrainian President, around 400 Iranian-made Shahed-136 kamikaze drones were employed in several explosions in Kyiv that attacked the country’s civilian population.

On October 17, Russia launched a deadly attack on Ukraine using 43 drones. Later that day, Moscow’s soldiers launched 28 drones to assault Kyiv, killing five people, according to The Kyiv Independent.

As connections between Tehran and Moscow continue to strengthen, and Iran continues to deny selling weapons to Russia, the conduct has been widely condemned across the world.

Ukraine’s capital city, Kyiv, was rocked by multiple explosions earlier on October 17 by “Kamikaze” drones, and several residential buildings were damaged as a result. Kyiv claimed Moscow used Iranian-supplied drones in recent strikes against major Ukrainian cities, and pleaded with Western countries to step up their assistance in the face of the new challenge.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has only become worse when a vehicle detonated on the Crimea road bridge, igniting seven gasoline tanks on a train bound for the Crimean Peninsula. The bomb killed three individuals and caused the partial collapse of two spans of the road bridge.

The Crimean Bridge, which was built to connect the peninsula to Russia’s transportation network, was inaugurated in 2018 by Russian President Vladimir Putin, four years after Moscow took Crimea.

The 19-kilometer bridge spans the Kerch Strait and connects Crimea to mainland Russia via a railway and vehicular portions. In 2020, it will be completely operating.

Earlier, the transport ministry stated that the bridge, which has two parallel paths for cars and trains, may be accessible to trains by 8 p.m. Moscow time (1700 GMT) on Saturday.
