Champions Bayern Munich dominated an outmatched Eintracht Frankfurt 6-1 in the Bundesliga season opening on Friday at Deutsche Bank Park, getting their bid for an 11th straight league championship off to the greatest possible start.

With new signing Sadio Mane scoring, the Bavarians overpowered the Europa League champions, who will play Real Madrid in the Super Cup next week, and set the tone early in their quest for an 11th straight league title.

Mane, who also scored in the German Super Cup victory over RB Leipzig last week, was one of five scorers in a scorching first half.

Joshua Kimmich’s audacious free kick, which went in off the post in the fifth minute, gave them the lead.

Just six minutes later, French defender Pavard scored, striking a loose ball across his body in a similar fashion to how he did to score the tournament-winning goal against Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.

In order to make it 3-0, former Liverpool forward Mane headed in a cross from Serge Gnabry in the 29th minute. Thomas Mueller, who had previously hit the post, was then sent through to set up Jamal Musiala for their fourth goal in the 35th minute with a simple tap-in and the Eintracht defense in shambles.

In the 43rd minute, Gnabry tucked the ball under goalkeeper Trapp to give Bayern a 5-0 lead at the break, dispelling any concerns that the team could struggle offensively without striker Robert Lewandowski, who left for Barcelona.

After the half, Bayern relaxed, and Eintracht Frankfurt took advantage by scoring through Randal Kolo Muani in the 64th minute.

However, Musiala completed the scoring seven minutes from time when he pounced on Leroy Sane’s assist to score his second goal of the game and end the rampage.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann, when asked following the game if Munich winning the Bundesliga was starting to seem like “normality,” responded predictably that he was content with the current situation.

“When you win 10 in a row, yes it starts to feel normal,” he told broadcaster DAZN. “But I don’t really care if it feels normal or not – but yes, it can stay ‘normal’.

“The first half was oustanding. I don’t think it’ll always be like this, but we should be satisfied.”

Glasner, the manager of Eintracht Frankfurt, hailed his team’s effort but claimed that they were helpless against the Bavarians.

“The whole time, the boys tried everything, but Bayern were just two good for us. Today we didn’t have a chance,” said the coach.

On Wednesday, the winner of the Champions League, Real Madrid, will play the winner of the Europa League, Eintracht Frankfurt, in a Uefa Super Cup match.

Next Sunday, as the Bundesliga season continues, Bayern will meet Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.
