Nollywood actress Queeneth Hilbert has taken legal action against her colleague Destiny Etiko, just days after Etiko filed a ₦100 million defamation lawsuit against her.
This development follows a heated controversy between the two actresses, with Hilbert accusing Etiko of snatching people’s boyfriends—a claim Etiko vehemently denied. In response, Etiko issued a legal demand for Hilbert to cease all defamatory remarks and retract her statements within 48 hours.
Now, Hilbert has countered with her own lawsuit, alleging that the attempt to arrest her was a breach of her personal liberty. The legal action has reportedly placed a perpetual injunction on her arrest, allowing her to continue her daily activities without interference.
Hilbert claims that police officers attempted to detain her on March 8, allegedly at the instigation of Destiny Etiko. In a fundamental rights enforcement suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, she asserts that the arrest attempt was unlawful and an abuse of power, violating her constitutional rights.
According to copies of the court filings from Hilbert’s official Facebook handle on Monday obtained by Townflex, the suit, marked FHC/L/CS/453/25, lists the Inspector General of Police (IGP) as the first respondent and Destiny Etiko as the second respondent.
In her lawsuit, Hilbert demands a court declaration stating that the arrest attempt and ongoing threats against her violate Sections 34, 35, 39, and 41 of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantee:
- Human dignity
- Personal liberty
- Freedom of expression
- Freedom of movement
Additionally, she seeks ₦100 million in damages for what she describes as harassment and restriction of her movement.
