American athlete, Serena Williams is about to call it a quit as she announces her retirement from tennis, which has got many of her fans, and lovers across the world very sad.

The professional American tennis player born withe her legal name Serena Jameka Williams, 40-years made this known to the world via the cover of her September 2022 Vogue, which was released on Tuesday, August 9, 2022.

Following her first victory of the year—a two-set triumph at the National Bank Open—the announcement was made.

She together with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, already share 4-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr.

And according to the mother of one, she will be focusing on building her family more stating she will retire from the sport after the annual tournament.

“These days, if I have to choose between building my tennis résumé and building my family, I choose the latter,” she wrote in a personal essay.

She also revealed that she together with her husband are trying to have another child together but that will only be possible after her athlete days are over.

“In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family.”

“I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.” she explained.

Serena, who will not immediately retire, is presently competing in a tournament in Toronto. On Monday, she won her first match in 430 days after struggling with health concerns for the majority of the previous several seasons.

While Williams says the end of her remarkable career is in sight, she’s enjoying her time and staying in the moment.

‘I’m getting closer to the light. Lately, that’s been it, I can’t wait to get to that light,’ she said, adding the light represents ‘freedom.’

‘I love playing though, it’s amazing,’ she added. ‘I can’t do this forever, so sometimes you just want to try your best to enjoy the moments and do the best that you can.’
