Former Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe has been confirmed dead, he died at age 67.

He died after he was shot while making a speech during a campaign in the Western city of Nara in Japan ahead of an election for the upper house of Parliament.

The late Japanese politician, Shinzo Abe served as Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Liberal Democratic Party from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020.

He is however known as Japan’s longest-serving prime minister in Japanese history until he resigned in 2020.

This is sad news for the People of Tokyo as this was not expected.

Abe was quickly rushed to the Nara Medical University Hospital right after the shooting incident after suffering cardio and pulmonary arrest.

He was later announced dead by the hospital shortly after 5 a.m. ET.

According to information gathered so far by Townflex.com, the person responsible for the shooting has been apprehended by the law enforcement personnel.

A statement from the police officials, they found multiple handmade guns at the suspect’s house after the PM was shot.

World leaders express shock over assassination of Japan’s Shinzo Abe

“He was working for peace and stability in Japan and the world,” Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said at a press conference. “He was a dear friend who loved this country … To lose such a figure in this manner is absolutely devastating.” Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said.

“I am stunned, outraged, and deeply saddened by the news that my friend Abe Shinzo, former Prime Minister of Japan, was shot and killed while campaigning.

“This is a tragedy for Japan and for all who knew him.

“He was a champion of the Alliance between our nations and the friendship between our people. The longest serving Japanese Prime Minister, his vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific will endure. Above all, he cared deeply about the Japanese people and dedicated his life to their service. Even at the moment he was attacked, he was engaged in the work of democracy.” U.S. President Biden said in a statement.

“Really BAD NEWS FOR THE WORLD! Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is dead. He was assassinated. His killer was captured and will hopefully be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Few people know what a great man and leader Shinzo Abe was, but history will teach them and be kind. He was a unifier like no other, but above all, he was a man who loved and cherished his magnificent country, Japan. Shinzo Abe will be greatly missed. There will never be another like him!” United States former President Donald J. Trump said in a truth social media post.

“I am shocked and saddened by the assassination of my friend and longtime partner Shinzo Abe in Japan. Former Prime Minister Abe was devoted to both the country he served and the extraordinary alliance between the United States and Japan,

“I will always remember the work we did to strengthen our alliance, the moving experience of traveling to Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor together, and the grace he and his wife Akie Abe showed to me and Michelle.” Former President Obama tweeted.

“SecState Blinken on #RIP Shinzo Abe: This is shocking. It’s profoundly disturbing. It’s also such a strong personal loss for so many people. In the United States, Prime Minister Abe was an extraordinary partner. And someone who clearly was a great leader for Japan” U.S Secretary of State Tony Blinken also tweeted.

“Deeply saddened by the heinous killing of Shinzo Abe, a defender of democracy and my friend & colleague over many years. My deepest condolences to his family, PM @kishida230 & the people of #NATO’s partner #Japan at this difficult time,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg tweeted.

“I am shocked and saddened beyond words at the tragic demise of one of my dearest friends, Shinzo Abe. He was a towering global statesman, an outstanding leader, and a remarkable administrator. He dedicated his life to make Japan and the world a better place,” adding that one day of national mourning will be observed on Saturday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic death of former #Japan PM Shinzo Abe. Japan has lost a highly respected politician. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the LDP & to the people of Japan,” Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa wrote on Twitter.

“Incredibly sad news about Shinzo Abe. His global leadership through unchartered times will be remembered by many. My thoughts are with his family, friends and the Japanese people. The UK stands with you at this dark and sad time,” U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson tweeted.
