Sidney explains his absence from the industry

Hiplife musician Sidney Kofi Ofori, also referred to as Barima Sidney in the music industry, has explained why he felt compelled to take a protracted hiatus from recording music.

Following a string of consecutive successful songs in the early 2000s, such as “African Money,” “Apuskeleke,” “Papa No,” and “Awuchie Kpongor,” the hiplife musician disappeared from the public eye for an extended period of time.

Social media users and industry insiders harshly criticised his most recent song, “Papa No.”

Many Ghanaians attributed the song to former President John Dramani Mahama, especially as the 2020 national elections approached.

In an interview with Joy Prime’s Prime Morning programme, the hitmaker talked about the struggles he had that broke him and forced him to take a break from the music business so he could heal.

I remember being devastated when the “Papa No” situation arose. The criticism seemed excessive, and I recall hearing someone remark that they wait for trends to happen before using something for a song.

And I asked, Do you think it’s simple to write a song in an instant? No, it actually makes you incredibly creative, but others misinterpreted it. I chose to keep quiet as a result,” he recalled.

Barima Sidney has made a comeback with a new song called “BBF,” which he claims he wrote as a self-comfort. King Paluta, a rapper from Kumasi, is featured on the song.

The “African Money” hitmaker declares that he is back for “good” and that he would no longer write songs that are contentious or have political overtones. He cautioned people to never give up on themselves when things get tough.

Rather, he exhorts them to view such situations as opportunities for personal development and fortification, with the conviction that things will ultimately improve.
