A South Carolina woman is being held without bond after authorities say she stabbed her boyfriend during a New Year’s Day dispute and later made unsolicited statements that raised serious concerns for investigators.
Robin Todd, 53, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the Hartsville Police Department. The incident unfolded just after midnight on January 1 at a home on Logan Avenue in Hartsville, a small city roughly 70 miles northeast of Columbia.
Police were dispatched to the residence following a 911 call. When officers arrived, they found the victim outside the home clutching his chest. Authorities said they recognized the man from “previous law enforcement encounters.” He allegedly told officers that his girlfriend had stabbed him.
Officers then attempted to make contact with Todd inside the residence. According to a police report obtained by WBTW, she refused to come to the door, telling officers, “Go on somewhere, I am not coming out.” Investigators say she then turned off the lights inside the home.
Police were eventually able to gain access to the residence and found Todd lying in bed. She was taken into custody and later transported to a nearby hospital after complaining of pain.
It was at the hospital that Todd allegedly made unprompted remarks about the stabbing. According to law enforcement, she asked officers, “If I stabbed him, did you find any blood?” She then reportedly added, “If I did stab him, he wasn’t supposed to be at my house anyway.”
An officer noted in the report that Todd’s statement conflicted with prior interactions, writing that she had previously acknowledged allowing the victim to stay at the residence and that he possessed a key to the home.
Court records indicate that Todd’s case has not yet appeared on the Darlington County public court docket. However, records show she has faced more than two dozen criminal cases or charges since 2015.
Todd is currently being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center without bond as the investigation continues.
