A routine stop for a cold drink turned into a life-changing moment for a South Carolina woman who walked away with a $75,000 lottery prize after buying a scratch-off ticket in Columbia.
According to the South Carolina Education Lottery, the Midlands woman visited the In and Out Market on Trotter Road in Columbia to purchase a beverage. While at the store, she decided to add a $3 Bingo scratch-off ticket to her purchase — a spontaneous decision that quickly paid off.
The ticket turned out to be a top-prize winner worth $75,000.
“I was exciting,” the woman recalled while describing the moment she realized she had won.
After claiming her prize, the winner said the unexpected money would ease some of life’s pressures, even if it doesn’t change everything overnight.
“I know that money isn’t everything, but this will sure help me out,” she told South Carolina Education Lottery officials.
Lottery officials noted that four additional top prizes remain unclaimed in the Bingo scratch-off game. The odds of winning the $75,000 top prize are 1 in 528,000.
The In and Out Market that sold the winning ticket also benefited from the win, receiving a $750 commission for selling the claimed scratch-off, lottery officials confirmed.
