The president of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa has flee from the official presidential house(palace) after protestors storm to protest.

The since Friday, thousand gathered to match on a protest near the presidential palace to vouce out their worries over the recent worsening economic crisis facing the country.

The demonstration is made up of people from university student, catholic priest, nun, and men and women from all walks if life to are not happy with the way the country is being run by its leader.

On Saturday, July 9, the situation got out out had that over 100,000 people who embarked on the protest had to storm the official presidential house forcing the president and his aids to flee.

The issue escalated that the law enforcement team had to come through where they fired tear gars into the crowed to disperse the protestors but all to no avail, they managed to enter the building.

In entering the building Rajapaksa was out of site with the help of security officials he was moved to safty

The protestors who invaded the mansion are however calling on their president, Gotabaya Rajapaksa to resign, according to police.

The prime minister of the country, Mr Wickremesinghe has also announced his resignation after thousands stormed the presidential palace to protest, and also assembled outside the Presidential Secretariat, the office of the president, and the home of prime minister.

Mr Wickremesinghe tweeted: To ensure the continuation of the Government including the safety of all citizens I accept the best recommendation of the Party Leaders today, to make way for an All-Party Government. To facilitate this I will resign as Prime Minister,”

Wickremesinghe’s house in some reports stated that was set in fire by the angry protestors.

According to reports, over 39 persons including police officials were hurt in the process of the protest which took place in Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo on Saturday.

The South Asian nation of 22 million is suffering its worst financial crisis in recent history, leaving millions struggling to buy food, medicine and fuel. Tens of thousands have taken to the streets in recent months, calling for the country’s leaders to resign over accusations of economic mismanagement. According to CNN.
