Townflex Sports News – The England-based professional football club, Manchester United has confirmed the appointment of Steve McClaren alongside Mitchell Van Der Gaag to serve as the assistants of United’s new club manager, Erik ten Hag.

As many of you already know, just as we published back in April, Manchester United has announced that it has appointed Erik Ten Hag the club’s new manager (head coach) which was confirmed on Thursday, morning, April 21, 2022.

The club has however confirmed the appointments of Steve McClaren and Mitchell Van Der Gaag as Erik ten Hag’s assistants via their official social media handles as well as their website on Monday morning, May 23, 2022.

Ten Hag was very much present as he watched United’s game where they lost to Crystal Palace alongside Van der Gaag and McClaren on Sunday from the stands.

McClean is not a new face for the United team as he has onced served as former Manchester United’s manager, Sir Alex Ferguson’s No. 2  (assistant manager) between the years, 1999 and 2001.

He left Old Trafford in 2001 to take on his first managerial role at Middlesbrough and proved to be a huge success on Teesside, securing the club’s first-ever major honour – the 2004 League Cup – as well as leading them to the UEFA Cup final in 2006, and the club’s highest top-flight finish in 30 years. He left Boro following his appointment as the England national team manager in May 2006, a role he held until November 2007.

While Van der Gaag on the other hand also worked alongside Ten Hag as his assistant back then at Ajax. His appointment is subject to Governing Body Endorsement from the FA and a UK visa.

The 50-year-old’s coaching career began back in Portugal with Maritimo and then Belenenses, whom he led back to the Primeira Liga by winning the Segunda Liga. After a short spell in Cyprus, he returned home to the Netherlands in 2015, where he worked with FC Eindhoven, Excelsior and NAC before joining Ajax in 2019.
