The governor made the statement at the Community Central Mosque, Ikeja during the 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day festivity. Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was rightfully represented by his deputy Deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat at the Jumat service which marked the celebration of the country’s “fallen heroes.”

The APC governor further added that armed forces were not left out of the criticism; and also opined that many Nigerians contribute to the crimes committed in several areas.

Moreover, the politician also said Nigeria is not the only country with problems; adding that citizens of other nations have challenges yet they keep it at bay outside the reach of news. He urged Nigerians to drop that mentality and embraced their uniqueness.

In this (uniqueness), the governor described it as an asset to build and develop the nation across all sectors of the economy.

Governor Sanwo-Olu through his deputy Dr Obafemi Hamzat said:

”All we do is criticise. We even criticise the Nigerian Army, that they are not fighting well. We always elevate the bad things about our country.”

”How do we justify the death of those people that fought for this country to remain? In memory of the people that have even died, let us even be nice to our country.”

”Whether we like it or not, if we do not build it, all of us will suffer. It is as simple as that.”

”We should do everything to prevent war. Some people have voluntarily said they will protect all of us with the help of Allah to defend this country. Therefore, we must appreciate them.”

”We pray that Almighty Allah will be with the souls of those that have departed. For those that are living, it is our responsibility to do everything that we should to appreciate their efforts.”

Speaking at the function, the Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, urged Nigerians to help the households of the killed soldiers and support them in any way they can.

The head of service also appreciated the efforts of the armed forces in ensuring peace and unity in the country.
