A deadly shooting at Antioch High School in Nashville, Tennessee, on Wednesday, January 22, left two students dead and one injured, after a 17-year-old male student opened fire on his classmates in the school cafeteria.

The shooter, who killed one female student and injured another, then turned the gun on himself, resulting in his death.

Police were called to the scene at 11:11 a.m. local time, quickly arriving at the school, where they found the tragic aftermath.

The shooter, who had reportedly been a student at the school, took his own life following the attack. The two female victims were immediately rushed to the hospital, where one later died from her injuries.

In a statement, the Nashville Police Department asked parents to avoid coming to the school and instead head to a nearby hospital to reunite with their children.

Buses were used to transport students to the reunification center to ensure their safety.

As news of the tragedy spread, aerial footage showed a large crowd gathered outside the hospital. Antioch High School, which has over 2,100 students, is now left to process the grief and trauma of the event.

The shooting comes less than two years after a similar tragedy in Nashville, where a gunman killed three children and three adults at a private Christian elementary school.
