Texas authorities have arrested a fugitive sought in connection with the suspicious death of a woman found inside a home west of Dallas, a case that has drawn public attention following the release of a booking photo showing the suspect wearing a sweatshirt with a disturbing message.

Kruz Dean Wanser was taken into custody Thursday, according to a statement posted by the Azle Police Department on Facebook. Investigators said Wanser was “sought in connection to the suspicious death” of Margaret Pennington, 37, who was found dead inside a residence in Azle earlier this month.

“Pennington was located deceased inside an Azle residence on Sunday, January 11, 2026,” police said, adding that the “cause of death is still pending.”

Images released by authorities show Wanser in a booking photo wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt printed with a provocative message in large white lettering. The sweatshirt reads, “I will put you in a trunk and help people look for you,” followed underneath by the phrase, “Stop playing with me.”

Police described Wanser as “a wanted fugitive” prior to his arrest. He now faces multiple charges, including tampering or fabricating physical evidence to impair a human corpse, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, and a parole violation.

Court records from Tarrant County indicate that a person identified as Kruz Dean Wanser has previously faced charges related to controlled substances, including manufacture or delivery, as well as evading arrest with a vehicle.

As investigators work to determine how Pennington died, family and friends are remembering her as a deeply expressive and caring individual. An online obituary described her as having a “creative and sentimental spirit,” noting that while she was “small in stature, she had a strong presence and a way of leaving an impression on those who knew her.”

“Margaret’s life was a tapestry of complexity, yet she embodied the essence of humanity and the profound love she shared,” the tribute continued. “She will be remembered for her creativity, humor, and the unwavering love that radiated from within her.”

Police emphasized that the case remains active. The investigation into Pennington’s death “is an open investigation and anyone with any information related to the death of Pennington is encouraged to contact the Azle Police Department,” officials said.

Azle is located approximately 50 miles west of Dallas. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding Pennington’s death as the investigation continues.
