Texas Teenager Confesses to Fatal Stabbing of Fellow Track Star

A Texas teenager is facing a murder charge following a tragic incident at a high school stadium that left another student dead. The confrontation, which reportedly lasted less than 30 seconds, ended with the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, a fellow track athlete.

According to police, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony is accused of stabbing Metcalf at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco on the morning of April 2. Authorities say Anthony pulled a knife from his backpack during a confrontation and stabbed Metcalf in the chest.

By the time emergency responders transported Metcalf to the hospital, he was pronounced dead. The probable cause affidavit, obtained by PEOPLE, outlines the chilling details of what unfolded before, during, and after the altercation.

When officers arrived, Anthony had allegedly distanced himself from the crowd. One officer ordered him to raise his hands. At that moment, Anthony reportedly stated, “I was protecting myself,” signaling the start of what police believe was an admission of guilt.

As the officer referred to him as an “alleged suspect,” Anthony allegedly responded, “I’m not alleged, I did it,” as documented in the affidavit. Anthony then grew emotional while being escorted to the patrol vehicle.

He continued speaking, saying, “He put his hands on me. I told him not to.” He then asked officers whether the stabbing could be considered an act of self-defense.

Anthony was booked into the Frisco Jail and remains in custody. A judge has set his bail at $1,000,000, per court documents.

According to the outlet, the fatal incident reportedly stemmed from a disagreement under a team tent set up on the field. Eyewitnesses told police that Metcalf asked Anthony to move from the tent area reserved for the track team.

Anthony then reached into his bag and allegedly warned Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens.” When Metcalf made contact with Anthony, the accused reportedly challenged him further, saying, “Punch me and see what happens.”

Moments later, Anthony allegedly drew a knife from his backpack and stabbed Metcalf. Witnesses reported that Anthony fled the scene immediately afterward.

Several coaches and trainers from Frisco Independent School District rushed to aid Metcalf, attempting CPR and other life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Officers also spoke with Metcalf’s brother Hunter, who was present at the scene but was too emotional to speak, according to the affidavit.
