Mark your calendars! “The Idol” is set to debut on HBO and HBO Max on Sunday, June 4th, at 9 p.m. Eastern.

This TV show, co-created by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Sam Levinson, and Reza Fahim, promises to be a “sleazy love story” that centers around the characters of Tedros, a cult leader in the entertainment industry, played by The Weeknd himself, and Jocelyn, a pop star and his follower, played by Lily-Rose Depp.

The new teaser trailer gives us a closer look at Tesfaye and Depp as the lead stars, with a star-studded cast that includes Dan Levy, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, and Jennie from Blackpink.

The Idol will premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival before its televised debut.

Rolling Stone recently published an investigation into the show that detailed staff changes, creative shifts, and allegations of “sexual torture porn” script ideas that were ultimately scrapped.

The creative team made changes they felt were in the best interest of the show, and despite production setbacks, they are committed to creating a provocative, safe, and respectful working environment.

The Weeknd’s recent surprise appearance at Coachella included a live performance of “Double Fantasy,” a track from The Idol Vol. 1, marking the first time he’s ever performed it live.

This exciting news, along with the upcoming premiere, has fans eagerly anticipating The Idol’s debut.
