Renowned Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has offered his thoughts on the format of interview questions and the dynamics that exist between performers and hosts.

On May 16, 2024, Kinaata addressed what many regard as “unnecessary” or “unprofessional” interview questions in an insightful conversation with Nana Romeo on Accra FM 100.5. Certain questions posed by presenters seem superfluous to you.

To address the usual criticism from artists regarding certain interview questions, Kinaata said, “But someone at home wants to hear an answer to that issue.

According to him, presenters frequently pose questions on behalf of their viewers rather than out of genuine curiosity. It’s important to remember that the audience is often curious about the answers to the questions the presenter poses.

By posing those queries, he is speaking for his audience and seeking clarification. Kinaata also underlined the interviewee’s accountability for responding to inquiries. He made it clear that the onus is entirely on the artist to decide whether and how to react to questions.

The decision on how and if to respond to the question rests with the person answering it. Underscoring the voluntary aspect of interview participation, he said, “I’m not sure someone has been fired or assaulted for declining to answer a certain question.”

An interview is being conducted, not a questioning. You can even give the presenter a signal to skip your response if you choose not to answer. In the interview observed, Kinaata’s viewpoint refutes the idea that some queries are innately impolite or bothersome.

Rather, acknowledging the significance of media in bridging the divide between celebrities and the general public, he promotes a more understanding and cooperative attitude between artists and broadcasters. In the meantime, Kofi Kinaata’s debut EP, “Kofi ooo Kofi,” is out.
