About Tony Awards

The Tony Awards, often referred to as the Antoinette Perry Awards for Excellence in Broadway Theatre, are an annual celebration of outstanding achievements in the theater industry. They recognize excellence in live Broadway theater performances, productions, and artists.

The Tony Awards were established in 1947 by the American Theatre Wing, a non-profit organization, to honor the best of Broadway theater. They were named after Antoinette Perry, an actress, director, and co-founder of the American Theatre Wing.
