Tory Lanez is fighting back against Megan Thee Stallion’s request for a temporary restraining order, accusing the rapper of misusing the legal system.
In a court filing obtained by PEOPLE, Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, responded to the civil harassment restraining order filed by Megan on December 17, 2024.
Lanez, 32, claims that Megan, 29, is using the California court system to make a “frivolous” request despite having had no direct contact with her.
He argues that she is weaponizing the justice system in an attempt to silence him over past comments.
His complaint notes that public figures like Megan, who have voluntarily chosen to live in the spotlight, cannot escape public scrutiny, and using the courts to stifle free speech is unjust.
The documents also reference California’s Code of Civil Procedure S. 527.8, which protects constitutionally protected speech, claiming that Megan’s request violates this principle.

Lanez goes further, accusing her of attempting to “cancel” his opinions instead of engaging in public debate.
In a statement to PEOPLE, Megan’s attorney, Mari Henderson, sharply rebuked Lanez’s response, calling it “delusional” for a convicted felon to contest a protective order request.
She emphasized that Lanez, convicted for shooting Megan in 2020, continues to harass her from prison, causing further trauma. Megan’s legal team insists that the protective order is necessary to prevent continued emotional distress and reputational harm.
Megan’s request for the restraining order alleges that Lanez is using third parties, like blogger Milagro Gramz, to continue harassing and victimizing her.
Lanez, sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan, has denied these claims, arguing that he is not a threat, as he no longer has access to a firearm and remains incarcerated.
Megan’s legal battle continues, with a court hearing set for January 9, 2025, to decide on the temporary restraining order.
