Tottenham Hotspur agrees to a £54.5m deal to buy Mohammed Kudus from West Ham

Mohammed Kudus transfer news: Tottenham Hotspur have reached a breakthrough in the transfer market by securing the signature of Ghanaian star Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United for £54.5 million ($74.7m).

The 24-year-old attacker is expected to undergo his medical on Thursday, with a six-year contract waiting to be finalized in north London.

The move marks the first direct transfer from West Ham to Spurs since Scott Parker made the switch in 2011. Kudus’ impending arrival at Tottenham has sparked significant reactions across the Premier League, especially among rival clubs who had shown strong interest in the player earlier this summer.

Chelsea and Newcastle were both linked to Kudus in recent weeks, but reports suggest the player was set on joining Spurs. His decision is seen as a major boost for Tottenham, who have been actively seeking a versatile forward capable of operating across the front line.

Kudus matches the profile perfectly and is expected to be an important part of Tottenham’s rebuilding effort under new manager Thomas Frank. After their initial £50 million bid was rejected, the club acted quickly, agreeing to a three-year structured payment plan.

The purchase may not have triggered the Premier League teams’ £85 million release clause set in early July, but West Ham were always willing to accept a lower amount. With multiple transfer targets of their own, the Hammers must sell before they can purchase.

Sources within West Ham have confirmed the club’s urgent need to comply with the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability regulations. Their current squad overhaul plan includes targeting a new goalkeeper, a left-sided center-back, a wing-back, two midfielders, and a striker.

Kudus, one of their most valuable assets, became the most obvious candidate to sell. The club reasoned that his preferred position on the right overlaps with Jarrod Bowen, the team’s current captain. Furthermore, manager Graham Potter does not see Kudus as a primary offensive option for his plans.

Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax in 2023 for £37 million and has had a solid start. However, last season was hard. He scored just four goals in all competitions and was suspended after receiving a red card in a 4-1 loss to Tottenham last October.

Despite that incident, Spurs have remained keen. Kudus’ versatility, pace, and technical ability still appeal to Tottenham’s recruitment team. His addition signals a serious intent from the club to bolster their attacking options following recent managerial changes.

Tottenham’s summer rebuilding is not over. Even with Kudus on board, the team is still interested in Brentford forward Yoane Wissa. The predicted double signing might dramatically transform Spurs’ front line for the 2025/26 season.
