Tributes have poured in for Sir Chris Hoy after the Olympic cycling champion revealed he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, the 48-year-old athlete disclosed that doctors have given him a prognosis of two to four years to live, following a diagnosis of primary prostate cancer that has spread to his bones.
Hoy, a six-time Olympic gold medalist, had previously mentioned receiving treatment for cancer but did not specify the type until now. He remains positive despite the news, stating, “As unnatural as it feels, this is nature… I’m pretty positive most of the time and I have genuine happiness.”
The former cyclist, who has been a vital figure in British Cycling’s success, shared a message on Instagram expressing his gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received from friends, family, and fans.
“I’m feeling fit, strong, and positive,” he wrote. “Onwards!”
