The 55-year-old filmmaker, actor, and writer shared his fury on social media, condemning the industry for what he called “pure greed” as communities are left vulnerable during one of California’s most devastating wildfire seasons.

As of January 13, the fires have claimed at least 24 lives, with the number of missing persons continuing to rise.

The Palisades Fire alone has scorched nearly 24,000 acres, and with over 100,000 people forced to evacuate, the destruction is widespread.

Perry took to Instagram to share the heartbreaking story of a woman frantically trying to protect her elderly parents’ home with nothing but a garden hose after their insurance was canceled.

The image, he said, was “gut-wrenching” and a stark reminder of the devastating impact insurance companies’ decisions have on ordinary people.

“Does anyone else find it appalling that insurance companies can take billions of dollars out of communities for years and then, all of a sudden, cancel millions of policies for the very people they became rich on?

People who have paid premiums all of their lives are left with nothing because of pure greed,” Perry wrote, adding that he was “keeping everyone in my prayers.”

Insurance giants like State Farm, Chubb, and Allstate have been cited for halting policies or refusing to issue new ones for properties in fire-prone areas, leaving many residents exposed to the deadly fires.

Perry, who has vowed to explore ways to assist those affected, has promised to continue advocating for change.

As California faces these unprecedented fires, it’s clear that many, like Perry, are calling for accountability and change in the insurance industry.
