UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar Dies At 45

UFC Hall of Famer Stephan Bonnar passed away on December 22 at age 45.

His death, according to the group, was thought to be caused by heart problems while he was at work. Griffin Brandon, his wife Andrea Brown, and Bonnar are left behind.

In light of this, On December 24, UFC President Dana White released a statement iterating, “Stephan Bonnar was one of the most important fighters to ever compete in the Octagon.”

“His fight with Forrest Griffin changed the sport forever, and he will never be forgotten. The fans loved him, related to him and he always gave them his best. He will be missed.”

Back in 2005, during the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, those fans fell in love with Bonnar.

His matchup with Griffin in the season one finale rapidly gained notoriety as one of the all-time great fights and contributed to the mainstreaming of UFC.

With a 15-9 record, Bonnar competed against fighters like James Irvin, Keith Jardine, Krzysztof Soszynski, Igor Pokrajac, Jon Jones, Rashad Evans, Mark Coleman, Anderson Silva, Tito Ortiz, and others during the course of his storied career.

Meanwhile, his final UFC match took place in 2012, and the following year, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

To that effect, following the passing of Bonnar, pundit Mike Goldberg tweeted, “If you knew @StephanBonnar it was impossible not to love him.

A loyal friend with a great sense of humor who once took over an entire floor of our hotel in Australia preparing his own kangaroo meal! RIP American Psycho, gone way too young!”
