With Sane’s contract approaching its expiration this summer, and after recently losing his spot to Michael Olise, the German international is reportedly considering his future options.

Since joining Bayern from Manchester City in 2020 for £55 million, the electrifying forward has accumulated an impressive tally of 51 goals and 50 assists, while contributing to three Bundesliga titles. Over recent seasons, United’s interest in Sane has surfaced multiple times, with Arsenal also reported to have monitored his situation closely this past summer, according to Sky Germany.

Bild has now revealed that the two clubs are ready to vie for Sane’s services in the upcoming transfer window, though the player remains engaged in ongoing negotiations with Bayern to potentially extend his stay.

As per Capology, a prominent football finance site, Sane earns an estimated £16.6 million per season at Bayern, placing him among the club’s highest-paid players alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, and Thomas Muller.

A player of Sane’s level on a free transfer would be a huge addition for any team, despite the fact that his performances have been inconsistent over the past year.

During his time at Manchester City, where he won two league titles under Pep Guardiola’s leadership before choosing to start over in Germany, Sane, who is known for his lightning-fast pace, was the Premier League’s quickest player. Especially at crucial times for Bayern, his partnership with Kane, who joined the team in the summer of 2023, has been especially remarkable.

Sane scored a spectacular goal against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final last season, showcasing his passion for big events.

But Sane has often struggled to stay in top physical shape. Transfermarkt claims that despite being healthy since early September, he had seven separate ailments in the previous season alone and has already experienced two setbacks this season.

Sane had groin surgery in July after experiencing pelvic discomfort throughout the previous season. Sane, who is known for his quick sprints over short and long distances, can play on either flank, although he has mostly played on the right for Bayern, with Serge Gnabry filling the left.

Sane left Manchester City in 2020 because he thought Bayern’s style was more his style. But Guardiola has always praised him, saying once that “Sane is the best in the world out wide,” and commending his “incredible” skill.

However, with Olise—a former Crystal Palace standout—taking over Sane’s starting spot, the seasoned winger has found himself relegated to the bench, a situation that few top-tier players are willing to endure indefinitely.
