In the Krobo District, some unidentified individuals have unlawfully reconnected transformers and cable ends that the Electricity Firm of Ghana (ECG) had previously unplugged.

According to Ms. Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Tema ECG Regional Public Relations Officer, the company’s evaluation of its infrastructure in the municipalities of Yilo and Lower Manya on August 16, 2022, as part of attempts to restore power to those communities, led to the discovery of the unlawful connection.

In addition to that, Ms. Mensah also emphasized that the low voltage fuses and ground wires on the majority of the transformers were also stolen.

Ms Sakyiwaa Mensah stated as follows:

“The ECG cannot, at this time, calculate how long all these repair activities would take. All the stolen parts and cut cables must be fixed before power can be restored.

But before the power supply can be restored, all the repairs must be completed. We anticipate finishing this soon enough.”
