SAD! Vinicius Jr Claims Fight Against Racism Cost Him Ballon d’Or

Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr has voiced his belief that his public battle against racism in football negatively impacted his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or.

The Brazilian winger was named runner-up for the prestigious award, which went to Manchester City midfielder Rodri, with Real Madrid teammate Jude Bellingham finishing third.

Before the awards ceremony in Paris, reports surfaced that players and coaches from Real Madrid had considered boycotting the event after learning that Vinicius would not be taking home the top honor.

Following the announcement, Vinicius took to social media, asserting, “I will do it 10 times if I have to. They’re not ready,” a statement reflecting his commitment to fighting racism in the sport.

A representative from Vinicius’s management team emphasized that the football world is unprepared for a player who challenges systemic issues.

The 24-year-old has been vocal about the racism he has faced, having been subjected to abuse on at least 16 occasions over recent years.

He pointed out a contradiction in Vinicius’s statements, noting that while the player criticized Spain’s handling of racism, he simultaneously claimed that the country is not racist.

Tebas urged for clarity in the dialogue surrounding these important issues.

Vinicius Jr’s remarks highlight a broader conversation about racism in football, illustrating the challenges players face when speaking out against discrimination.
