LaShaun Quintae Holloway

A Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison, with 20 years suspended, for the fatal beating of his 2-month-old daughter during an Xbox gaming session.

La’Shaun Quintae Holloway, 27, was convicted of second-degree murder and child abuse after a jury trial held in August, with the sentencing reflecting the severity and brutality of the crime.

Prosecutors detailed that on December 20, 2019, Holloway was alone with the infant at his residence on Woodcock Lane.

During this time, family members overheard Holloway yelling obscenities at the baby over an Xbox headset. Soon after the baby ceased crying, she was found unresponsive.

Emergency responders transported the infant to a hospital, where she was placed on life support and died days later. The infant’s autopsy revealed horrific injuries, including 26 rib fractures in various stages of healing, bruising on her chest, a fractured clavicle, skull fractures with bruising around the eyes, and extensive brain bleeding.

Medical experts confirmed these injuries stemmed from abusive head trauma.Despite sentencing guidelines recommending around 23 years, the judge extended Holloway’s sentence to 30 years behind bars, citing the victim’s age, the seriousness of her injuries, and the cruelty of the act.

Holloway, who was indicted by a grand jury in October 2021, was already incarcerated on unrelated charges involving child abuse and neglect in Chesapeake.

His criminal history also includes felony eluding police, hit and run, DUI, carrying a concealed weapon (second offense), petit larceny, and failure to appear in court.
