Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea’s head coach, has been fired. The choice was made in response to Tuesday’s defeat against Dinamo Zagreb in the Blues’ Champions League debut.

With two losses in their first six Premier League games, the Blues’ league campaign has gotten off to a mediocre start.

Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel.”

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, the Club would like to place on record its gratitude to Thomas and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.”

“Thomas will rightly have a place in Chelsea’s history after winning the Champions League, the Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time here.”

“As the new ownership group reaches 100 days since taking over the Club, and as it continues its hard work to take the club forward, the new owners believe it is the right time to make this transition.”

“Chelsea’s coaching staff will take charge of the team for training and the preparation of our upcoming matches as the Club moves swiftly to appoint a new head coach.”

“There will be no further comment until a new head coach appointment is made.”

The club made the aforementioned declaration after Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel criticized his team’s “Huge underperformance” in the Champions League group encounter, claiming his team lacked “hunger and intensity” in the unexpected 1-0 loss at Dinamo Zagreb.

“I’m angry on myself,” Tuchel said. “I’m angry on our performance. It’s not aggressive enough on the ball, it’s not enough individually or enough as a team.”

“[There is] too much to analyse. I’m part of it. We are clearly not where we need to be. It’s on me, on us, we need to find solutions. At the moment everything is missing.”

Despite the season’s rocky start, many Chelsea fans are surprised by the news regarding Tuchel.

After six games, the Blues have won three, tied one, lost two, and are presently sixth in the Premier League.

The 1-0 loss away at Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday was the German’s 100th and ultimately final game as Chelsea’s head coach.

There had been a lot of talk about the club perhaps giving Tuchel a new deal, but that has since altered.

After spending a one-window Premier League record £273 million to upgrade the team, the highly rated German coach has presided over three losses in seven games in new season.

The early front-runners for the position of next Chelsea manager are said to be Brighton manager Graham Potter and former PSG and Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino.
