American actor and rapper, Will Smith was crowned as the winner of the best ‘Actor in a Leading Role’ in the just ended 94th Academy Awards (Oscars 2022).
The Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, are awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry. They are regarded by many as the most prestigious and significant awards in the entertainment industry worldwide.
Given annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the awards are international recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements, as assessed by the Academy’s voting membership.

The various category winners are awarded a copy of a golden statuette as a trophy, officially called the “Academy Award of Merit”, although more commonly referred to by its nickname, the “Oscar”. The statuette depicts a knight rendered in the Art Deco style.
This year’s wards even which serve as the 94th Academy Awards came off on Sunday, March 27, 2022, after the nomination got released back in February 8, 2022, by actors Tracee Ellis Ross and Leslie Jordan.
The actor, Will Smith was crowned winner of the ‘Actor in a Leading Role’ category with his role in the “King Richard” movie after managing managed to beat the likes of Javier Bardem, “Being the Ricardos”, Benedict Cumberbatch, “The Power of the Dog”, Andrew Garfield, “tick, tick…BOOM!”, and Denzel Washington, “The Tragedy of Macbeth”.

In the 2022 Critics’ Choice Movie Awards, Will Smith won with the same “King Richard” movie in the “best actor” category.
Will Smith also caused a surprising scene at the 2022 Oscars as he slapped Chris Rock after Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair prior to his award win.
