Wisconsin Mom Charged in Connection With Drowning Death of Tot Son

A devastating incident occurred in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, when a mother was jailed after her 1-year-old son drowned in the bathtub. Authorities have identified the mother as 28-year-old Selena Doxzon, who is now facing criminal accusations for child neglect that resulted in death.

Doxzon told detectives she was multitasking, cooking breakfast and washing dishes, after putting her two young sons, ages 3 and 1, in the bathtub together. According to her statement, she left the children to play while she handled the kitchen responsibilities.

After just a few minutes, the older child walked into the kitchen, soaked in water. Concerned, Doxzon rushed back to the bathroom to investigate. There, she found her youngest son, Asher Wyatt Doxzon, floating face-up and unresponsive in the bathtub.

A neighbor quickly responded to her cries for help and began CPR on the child. Emergency services transported the boy to Children’s Wisconsin Hospital. Despite the resuscitation efforts, Asher was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the facility.

According to the criminal complaint, Doxzon explained that she had recently begun bathing her younger son in the bathtub instead of the sink. She admitted that she usually bathed the children separately but had changed that routine in recent days.

Reports indicate that the tub contained approximately 3.5 to 4 inches of water. When the older child was seated, the water reached his belly. Despite the seemingly shallow depth, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause of death as asphyxiation from drowning.

Following the investigation, authorities arrested Doxzon and charged her with one count of neglect of a child causing death. She is currently held on a $10,000 bond. A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for May 30.

The case has prompted renewed discussions about child safety in home environments, especially during multitasking scenarios that may unintentionally place children at risk. Many are now calling for increased awareness and resources to help prevent similar tragedies in the future.
