A Wisconsin court has sentenced a young father to life in prison for the killing of his newborn daughter, closing a major chapter in a deeply disturbing case while leaving room for further legal proceedings.
Logan Kruckenberg Anderson, now 21, received a life sentence with the possibility of supervised release after 45 years following his conviction for first-degree intentional homicide. The sentencing also included an additional four-year prison term, plus three years of extended supervision, for concealing the child’s body. Both sentences will run concurrently, with nearly five years already credited for time served.
The crime dates back to January 2021, when Kruckenberg Anderson was 16 years old. His then-14-year-old girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl, later named Harper, in a bathtub after the couple concealed the pregnancy from their families.
Investigators say the situation escalated in the days following the birth. According to court findings, Kruckenberg Anderson placed the newborn inside a backpack and carried her into a wooded area. There, he left her exposed in freezing conditions, covering her body with snow.
As he walked away, the baby began to cry. Authorities say he then returned and shot her twice in the head.
The case came to light after the girlfriend’s father contacted emergency services, concerned about the baby’s disappearance. When questioned, both teenagers initially told police they had attempted to arrange an adoption through a contact on Snapchat. However, Kruckenberg Anderson later admitted to his actions, stating he intended to leave the newborn outside to die from exposure before ultimately killing her.
During sentencing, prosecutor Adrienne Blais described the motive behind the crime in stark terms, telling the court, “It’s about one person fantasizing playing house. It’s about one person bent on erasing a problem, because that was what Harper was to him. A problem to screw up his life, so he got rid of her, so he just tried to make her go away.”
Despite the sentencing, legal proceedings in the case are ongoing. Court records show that the defense has filed a motion to dismiss, which prosecutors have been given 120 days to address. A hearing date has not yet been scheduled.
In the meantime, Kruckenberg Anderson remains in custody under the Green County Sheriff’s Department and has been ordered to have no contact with the child’s mother.
