Taylor, Michigan – A shopping trip at Southland Center mall turned violent after a dispute inside a Kids Foot Locker escalated into a stabbing that left a 19-year-old injured.

According to local reports, the altercation began when a female shopper’s card was declined at the register. Witnesses say someone nearby allegedly made a comment calling her a “broke b—,” prompting the woman to lash out in anger. Moments later, the confrontation turned physical.

The victim, Suniya Jenkins, told FOX 2 Detroit (WJBK) that she was not the person who made the remark but stepped into the store to see what was happening when she was suddenly attacked.

“I think it was unfair to me to get stabbed,” Jenkins said. “To start, I was stabbed four times and I have a punctured lung right now.”

Jenkins said the woman, who had children with her, pulled a kitchen knife from her purse during the heated exchange.

“As the argument got verbal, she put her hand in her purse and proceeded to tell me she was going to shoot me,” Jenkins recalled. “I did not see or even know I was stabbed until after the physical altercation.”

Police in Taylor confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody shortly after the incident and is expected to face formal charges. Authorities have not yet released her name.

Despite her injuries which included stab wounds to her neck, stomach, and thigh, Jenkins is expected to make a full recovery.

“I am going to press charges,” she said, adding that she felt conflicted because the woman had children. “It does sadden me because I don’t want her to be taken away from her children, I truly don’t.”
