A dramatic scene unfolded in Isipingo, a suburb south of Durban, when a woman, suspected to be mentally ill, climbed atop a Metro Police vehicle and stripped naked, creating a viral sensation on social media.
Footage of the incident shows the woman perched on the roof of the VW Polo police car as it navigates through busy streets.
Clutching a bag, she appears agitated and begins to lift her dress, exposing herself to onlookers below.
The police vehicle continues to move while she sits down and removes her dress entirely, much to the astonishment of pedestrians.
Witnesses reported the incident to the police, prompting officers to respond to the scene. Metro Police spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu confirmed that they were alerted to the situation involving a mentally ill woman.
“The lady jumped on top of the fully-marked vehicle. The officers managed to get her down and she was taken to the Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Umlazi for treatment,” Zungu explained.
