A woman’s mission to give her dying dog a final adventure has led to an unexpected bond with another dog, capturing hearts on social media.
Jennifer Lee, originally from Seattle but now living in Amsterdam, took her beloved dog Maggie to Spain after receiving heartbreaking news about her pet’s health.
Maggie had been diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy, a serious heart condition, and was given just three to six months to live.
Determined to make Maggie’s remaining time as meaningful as possible, Lee decided to take her on a peaceful getaway to the remote mountains of Chulilla, Spain, in November 2024.
What began as a trip to enjoy nature together unexpectedly turned into an extraordinary story of friendship.
Shortly after arriving, Lee and Maggie were visited by a local dog named Piggy. Known as an “outside dog,” Piggy had a home but spent most of his time outdoors.
He wandered up to Lee and Maggie during their first days in Spain, and despite Maggie’s initial reactivity, the two dogs quickly formed a close bond.

Piggy’s daily visits soon became part of their routine, with him greeting Maggie each morning and joining them on their mountain walks.
In the evenings, Piggy would even scratch at Lee’s door, eager to spend time inside with them.
As Lee grew fond of Piggy, she noticed the dog might need veterinary care. After reaching out to Piggy’s owners, they initially hesitated but eventually took him to the vet.
As her connection with Piggy deepened, Lee offered to adopt him, but his owners requested a hefty sum of $50,000.
Although they are not willing to part with Piggy, Lee’s offer has sparked public support, with a GoFundMe campaign raising over $18,000 to help her adopt him.
In an update on her GoFundMe page, Lee expressed her inner conflict, writing that while the money could help many other dogs, she couldn’t just do nothing.
Regardless of the outcome, Lee hopes to use the funds for Piggy’s care or donate them to an animal rescue organization, showing the power of collective action and the love people have for animals in need.
