The 2022 World cup has finally come to an end and just as you know, Argentina was crowned the victors after beating France on penalty kicks to lift one of the most famous trophies in all of sport.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar ended on Sunday, December 18th, and we know most of you are eager on knowing what the prizes are for every country’s participation and how much the winner and the runner-up get also, and this post is all bout giving you such details, Just keep reading below.

Without wasting much time let’s get into it I hope you guys are aware, FIFA allotted $440 million in prize money for the 2022 World Cup.

The final game alone had a total of $72 million in prizes which will be going out to the winner of the tournament as well as the runner up where the winner takes home $42, million, while the second position takes $30 million in cash prize.

And not only do the first and second position takes all the money, but other teams (countries) will also receive money for their participation, and also they earn a high amount of money depending on how far they advanced in the competition.

World Cup 2022 prize money Breakdown

Group Stages: Just as we know, out of the 32 teams competing, a total of 16 teams exited the World Cup at the group stage, and couldn’t progress to the next round, and these all earned a total of $9 million each for their participation. The teams include the likes of; Qatar, Canada, Ghana, Uruguay Costa Rica, Ecuador, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Tunisia, Belgium, Germany, Serbia, Wales, Iran, Mexico, Cameroon.

Round Of 16: Away from the Group stages, the 16 countries that qualified to the Round of 16 which includes; Netherlands, Senegal, England, United States, Argentina, Poland, France, Australia, Japan, Spain, Morocco, Croatia, Brazil, Switzerland, Portugal, and South Korea. $13 million dollars is given out to each out the 8 teams who lost and couldn’t progress to the next stage (Quater Finals).

Quarter Finals: In the Quarters which is made up of 8 teams, including Croatia, Brazil, Argentina, Netherlands, Morocco, Portugal, England, and France, The 4 teams that fail out of the 8 to reach the semi-finals will receive a total of $17 million each.

Fourth place: North African Country, Morocco who played with Croatia but lost to them was also awarded a cash prize of $25 million for ending up fourth.

Third Place: The second runner-up, Croatia after beating Morocco and emerging as the third position holders were given a total of $27 million.

First Runner-Up: the second position holder, France after losing the final game to Argentina took home a total sum of $37 million dollars.

Winners: The newly crowned 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup winners, Argentina were awarded a cash prize of $42 million.
