Zelensky Urges Trump to Force Russia Toward Peace

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on former U.S. President Donald Trump to use his influence to “force Russia into peace.” His remarks come as tensions between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin continue to escalate.

Trump, who has previously voiced frustration over Putin’s attempts to undermine Zelensky’s credibility, admitted he was “p*ssed off” with his Russian counterpart. Putin recently suggested that Ukraine needed new leadership, further fueling the political standoff.

Zelensky, known for his strong stance against Russian aggression, seized the moment to challenge Trump. He urged the U.S. leader to take decisive action, emphasizing that prolonging the war would be dangerous for global stability.

Posting on X, formerly known as Twitter, the 47-year-old Ukrainian leader warned that Russia is deliberately extending the war. “Right now, Russia continues looking for excuses to drag this war out even further. Putin is playing the same game he has since 2014,” Zelensky stated.

He called for a united international response, emphasizing the importance of support from the U.S., Europe, and other global partners committed to peace. His remarks followed Trump’s suggestion that Russia could face severe economic consequences if peace negotiations fail.

Speaking on NBC, Trump hinted at imposing a hefty tariff on Russian oil, potentially ranging between 25% and 50%. He further warned that any country buying oil from Russia would risk losing access to the U.S. market.

Also, British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and Trump discussed economic relations and global security. A Downing Street spokesperson confirmed that both leaders addressed the “productive negotiations between their respective teams on a UK-U.S. economic prosperity deal.”

According to Irishstar, the conversation also covered the ongoing war in Ukraine, with both leaders agreeing on the importance of maintaining collective pressure on Putin. They pledged to continue discussions in the coming days.

During his NBC interview, Trump made a controversial remark about the constitutional limit restricting U.S. presidents to two terms. When asked about potential plans to extend his presidency beyond two terms, Trump responded, “Well, there are plans… There are – not plans. There are methods – there are methods which you could do it, as you know.”

His statement immediately sparked debate, as the 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution explicitly limits presidents to two terms. This rule was established after Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected for four consecutive terms in 1940 and 1944.
