Zimbabwean and Lesotho nationals clash in South Africa over jobs [Watch Video]

South African Police Service (SAPS) is working to return calm to Robertson at the Cape Winelands in the Western Cape of South Africa after reports went viral that Zimbabwe and Lesotho nationals who are farmworkers clashed over jobs.

According to reports, it has been alleged that some Lesotho nationals are accusing the Zimbabweans of taking their jobs on the local farms. leading to over 20 persons getting injured.

The incident according to a post published on the official website of the South African Police Service (SAPS), occurred on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

per the media statement released by SAPS signed by Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the law enforcement personnel are already dispatched to the locations to monitor the situation which he says is currently under investigation by their detectives.

He also added that aside from the team on the ground air supports have been made available to help contain the situation, as mediation efforts continue between the warring parties, with the local SAPS, the municipality, the farming community, and the department of labour playing a leading role.

According to Potelwa’s statement, some group of people on the said Thursday night sought refuge outside the Robertson police station in fear of possible attacks.

He went on and also debunked reports making rounds on social media claiming that some persons have died as a result of the clash saying those reports are all just false and asking the general public to disregard it.
