Adidas sued by investors for ‘ignoring’ Kanye West’s ‘extreme behaviour’ ahead of cutting ties over antisemitic comments

Adidas is facing legal action from investors who allege that the company failed to address Kanye West’s controversial behavior before severing ties with him.

The rapper, now 45, lost his decade-long partnership with the sportswear brand in October 2022 following a series of antisemitic comments made on social media.

Adidas stated that it would end production of Yeezy-branded products and cease all payments to West and his companies, citing the rapper’s comments as “unacceptable, hateful, and dangerous.”

The investors are claiming that Adidas knew about West’s views well before the partnership was terminated and failed to disclose the risk of ending the deal.

They cite reports of West making antisemitic comments in front of Adidas staff, including suggesting that one of his albums be named after Adolf Hitler. The abrupt termination of the partnership left Adidas with unsold stock worth £1.1 billion and facing a £444 million hit to operating profit this year.

Investors claim they were unaware of Yeezy’s importance to Adidas profits and were shocked by the figures.

Adidas has denied the allegations, stating that they reject the claims and will take necessary measures to defend themselves.

The company said it was the sole owner of all design rights to existing products, as well as previous and new colorways under the partnership. West’s loss of the Adidas deal caused him to drop off the Forbes’ billionaire list.

While not connected to the Adidas lawsuit, West is currently facing legal action from two former Donda Academy teachers who allege wrongful termination and discrimination.

The teachers claim to have witnessed children being fed only one meal a day, and students being fed sushi while sitting on the floor. Hailey and Byers also allege they were discriminated against based on their race and had wages held from them illegally. The academy is a private Christian school launched by West in 2022.
