An 82-year-old fisherman from Destrehan, Louisiana, was rescued after spending hours stuck in thick mud while fishing in LaPlace, Louisiana.
Authorities received the call late on Sunday, March 23, after the elderly man’s family reported him missing, having not heard from him for more than eight hours.
The fisherman had been fishing for crawfish in the muddy waters of the area but became trapped in waist-deep muck, unable to free himself.
St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office quickly launched a search, and Corporal Travis Klibert located the man’s vehicle shortly before 11:30 p.m.

Deputy Brian Kennedy used a drone to help pinpoint the missing man’s location, which was approximately two-tenths of a mile from his vehicle.
With the help of Sergeant Jonathan Walker, the elderly man was pulled back to safety using a rope. He was given a lifejacket before being brought to land.
Once rescued, the fisherman explained that his phone had stopped working after getting wet in the muddy water, leaving him unable to call for help.
Despite his ordeal, he was alert and responsive but was transported to a local hospital for further care.
Sheriff Mike Tregre commended the quick response of his deputies and reminded outdoor enthusiasts to always inform others of their whereabouts and plans when venturing into remote areas.
“You never know what will happen. It’s good to make sure that other people are aware of your plans and location,” Tregre said.
