After several years of making music, Guru—known for his modern hip-hop rap style that blends Ghanaian and English languages—is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Political Science and Information Studies at the University of Ghana.

When Guru’s smash song “Lapaz Toyota” debuted on the Ghanaian music charts in 2011, it became his big break.

The rapper, one of Ghana’s most popular hip-hop artists at the moment, is also a fashion designer.

His tracks break new ground in Ghanaian music by fusing dancehall, hip hop, Afrobeats, and highlife sounds.

Guru declared his intention to run for SRC President in order to handle some of the major issues the university is currently facing.

He claims that some of his proposals, should he be elected SRC President, include installing a Legon television, increasing the number of buses available to students on campus, and introducing leisure activities to relieve stress and pressure on students.

I’m in my third year of studying political science and information studies at the University of Ghana. Since I have witnessed the events and the kind of leader that people desire, I would like to begin there.

“I’m looking forward to bringing Legon TV; students are tired of the radio station. We should have a Legon TV, the buses on campus are very few, we need to add more,” he stated.
