Techiman Leaders Speak Out: ‘We Didn’t Start the Fight – Otumfour’s Guards Did’

In a fresh twist to the ongoing Kumasi-Techiman dispute, the Techiman Traditional Council has publicly addressed the recent commotion involving the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II.

The council claims that the altercation was ignited by Otumfour’s own guards, not the people of Techiman.

In a video shared with Gh Page, the traditional leaders explained that they had been aware of several videos circulating, where Otumfour’s guards expressed their intent to stir up trouble upon reaching Techiman.

Despite these troubling messages, the council emphasized that they chose to remain calm, opting not to escalate the situation.

However, when Otumfour passed through Techiman, the council members say they greeted him warmly, demonstrating respect and affection, even though many in the town were unaware of his arrival until after he had already left.

The situation reportedly took a turn for the worse when Otumfour’s guards, on their way back, allegedly caused more disturbances.

Techiman Leaders Speak Out: ‘We Didn’t Start the Fight – Otumfour’s Guards Did’

The Techiman Traditional Council claims that the guards’ actions escalated the tensions, forcing the locals to respond in defense.

They explained that this led to the confrontation, which they say was sparked by the guards’ provocations.

The council’s statement has raised questions about the role of Otumfour’s security detail in the violence, with many wondering if the guards’ actions may have contributed to the unrest in Techiman.

While the situation remains under investigation, the traditional council stands firm on their stance that their people were merely reacting to a provoked incident.

This development adds to the growing concerns about the security and relations between the two communities.
